===I just finished upgrading my install of Ubuntu to the latest and greatest….and I am impressed. Very smooth transition, and the system is noticably faster. I have to say, it looks even better as well. My regularly used programs are doing much better. I am pleased.
===It is so nice when an upgrade goes well, and they do things RIGHT…and the adjusted look is actually BETTER.
===If you are looking at trying out a great distro…I have to recommend them. (grins).
===I am using a client called Liferea for Linux.
====Interesting way to look through news articles.
Old Stuff from way back showing the progress of thigns a couple of years ago:
===System running well…the upgrade to kernel 2.6.2 has worked quite nicely.
===The newest edition of Sylpheed is not working up to par…but I can say that Mozilla Thunderbird is excellent, so i switched over to that. I think I will wait for someone to package Firefox, and stick with Mozilla Firebird for browsing (yes, i use the two separate projects than the integrated Mozilla browser. I find it works better for me)
===Logjam is still the best for an LJ client.
===K3B is an excellent cdburning program….
===XFCE is the manager….small, easily configurable, and fast.
===Openoffice.org for my interoperability with the office (I can read and save in M$office for them to be able to read at work) (Abiword looks nice, but it is not quite up there in this regard)
===XMMS for music…Grip for my Ripper (into OGG format)
===Xine for DVD watching.
===Just in case people were actually wondering what I like to use….(grin)
===Well, the new kernel decided that it wanted to work without any tweaking…so now I have a fully functioning box with a 2.6.2 kernel. I switched over to my favorite desktop desktop/windowmanager Xfce, and the problems with sound I was having with Gnome went away.
===I have to still try burning a data cd, but the problem with watching movies on DVD has fixed itself as well. I suspect part of it was chosing the background of my opening splash screen from the Discordian Coloring Book…(grin)
===So…an evening of getting my machine working to my wishes has been fruitful.
===Busy preparing for another attempt at upgrading/tweaking the kernel of my system. I did in facxt do it earlier…I do have 2.6.2 on this machine…and it does run faster…but I have no mouse, and no ALSA. So I am using the earlier kernel to run off of.
===This instalation of Debian is using GRUB….and that has made it a lot easier to switch between kernels without having things go boom. No idea why it has decided to like me now,….however, i am happy in this.
===So…here goes an attempt to custom-tweak a kernel to this machine….
